i did it! my toe has been touched by the hand of medical miracle workers (a canadian lady from montreal who laughed at my jokes and squirmyness and let landon join us in the room). she had to cut off a portion of my toe (the infected weird toe growing on top of toe) and cut the nail out. it was not so bad as i had anticipated! the three needle injections were kind of a bummer but once that was taken care of i was in numb heaven. landon played nurse and rewarded me with all sorts of edible presents. you guys were super and made me feel much more at ease about the whole situation (save for the stories of full toenail removal, geez, i'm sorry pals). so i thank you friends! i even had the pleasure of regaling a certain s. sarandon about the whole ordeal while she drank tea as my roommate's guest at our table. she was a gracious listener though was not nearly as interested in my toe as she was with landon's 16 year old driver's license photo. it was our third meeting and i think i've thoroughly embarrassed myself at all three and while landon has moved into the hugging stage of the relationships i remain at the cool handshake and smile stage. poo! perhaps she caught me checking out the contents of her blouse? i mean really! how can one resist?
we have to move december first (happy birthday to me!) and i'm all antsy about our future abode, shopping for apartments in new york has been a bit of a slap in the face after living with such luck in our dream spot for the last six months. i do look forward to finally unpacking our full spread of goodies and having a proper closet to house my wears (especially after viewing this lady's magical spot). wish us luck as the hunt officially begins tomorrow!
and finally, a note on friends beyond the cut.

I'm slowly finishing up my WIPs, here are some pics!

( WIPs! )
I also started my first pair of socks at work this week. The sweater is way too big to knit in the office anymore, so a pair of socks is much easier to manage. I'm using this pattern: Monkey, using this yarn: Jazzberry Cream.

I'm waiting for some yarn I ordered from purlsoho.com to arrive in the mail. It's SHIBUI KNITS merino worsted in Peacock. Me ---> excited.

It's my week of tying up loose ends and having hangouts and doing relax-y things with my friends before I leave. lots of random picking up and dropping off.
I am selling my amp and cabinet. perfect for a beginner bass set up (or keyboard maybe guitar) but also big enough to gig with. $160 for the amp (peavey centurion mark iii, solidstate) and $175 for the cabinet (peavey 4x'10 on casters) or $300 for both. I didn't want to sell these but I had to pay $1400 for a root canal last week and have to try to make up for it somehow...
If you know anyone who is interested get them in touch with me.
Also, it looks like we will be staying for the PROHAB calendar release party on Friday the 13th. Please come to say farewell, or let's get together for drinks beforehand or on Thursday night.

I need to find a megaphone for use as a prop. It doesn't even have to work. Does anyone know where I can get one? If you've got one and want to make an easy 20 bucks, let me know please.

| Tree. |
[08 Nov 2009|01:59pm] |

So, I've been working on this freehand painting of a tree for a few weeks now and I've finally finished it (mostly). I still need to do the bits that extend up onto the ceiling, but I'm in the stage where I step back for a few days and decide where extra foliage (if any) is needed. I'm rather pleased with it..if I do say so myself, so I thought I would share it here..in the saucy place. ;)

So I am thinking of going LJ silent for a while except for Besizened and the occasional comment here and there. I have been feeling more and more raw and on display when I post anything on the internet, let alone personal stuff. When I put it out I need so much more back than what I can get here and then I am less present for you guys. I view my livejournal as something that is fun, that I write in sometimes, an easy way to communicate with a big group of people. Primarily I use it to look at a few peoples journals and generally about 5 people respond to my big life things. Which I totally get and is cool. However, 4 of those people live in the same city as me and I would much rather be putting effort into one on one communication, even internetelly. I feel so completely disconnected on here and I think I need to change that. I have kept this around for longer than I had planned not only because I found FA and it reboosted my love of LJ but because I am in love with someone who I am out of touch with and knowing that he reads this is some way of communicating. That isn't fair to anyone else to not have me 100% invested. So, F-list, I think my plan is to put all of my entries on private and be around here much less but more present in email and phone and in person ways. This is probably a temporary thing while I adjust to working and winter, hence the private entries instead of just deleting everything. If you had posted something in my comments that you want but can't find let me know and I can send it to you. I will keep everything open for the day and private everything when I get home. I also realized that I view LJ as one whole group of people. So I will get comments from someone then comment on someone elses LJ and feel like there is balance there without thinking of it on an individual level always. The internet is weird and hard for me this way and I'd just rather do more quality than quantity. Unfortunately I am not being so great at both right now. I spend too much time here and on fbook. Time that I could be reading, talking on the phone with you, hanging out with people, making things, sleeping, writing in my paper journal (which grounds me and which I haven't written in, save for last night, for months and months.) Tell me whatcha think? And find me on email at farawayonfire@gmail.com. You can also call or text me at 778-867-2370.

| Market carts |
[08 Nov 2009|03:34am] |
|
Does anybody know if stores like Canadian Tire or Home Depot sell market carts? I am looking for one, as I am moving and the area has several grocery stores that are within walking distance of each other and would like it if I could bring get groceries that I could carry in a cart rather than by lugging around several bags in my arms, especially with heavy items like milk, etc.
Also, I live in Abbotsford, so the farthest I would probably go would be Langley or Surrey to get a cart.

| vets & groomers in vancouver (downtown/yaletown) |
[07 Nov 2009|11:11pm] |
I just adopted a dog today and was wondering if anyone knows of a good veterinarian and dog groomer in the downtown/yaletown area, or even a short drive away. Preferably somewhere affordable and not too yuppie.... :)
thanks.

Uh, cold much? The heat isn't working in my house! I don't understand why. It has been happening on and off all week and well I'm an antisocial weirdo so I haven't really talked to the people upstairs or downstairs yet and don't wanna be like hey so I avoided you all this time, and you've seen me doing weird things through the window like play poker while naked with make up smeared all over my face and taking picture of the experience itself... but HI is your heat working?!
So this was me today... inside my house.

| Just because we seem to like beer |
[07 Nov 2009|01:26pm] |
There was a recent post about where to find cheap beer in the city - my friend just happened to send me this link and I think it's genius!
http://www.iamelectro.com/beersearch.html
It lists drink specials by night in Vancouver. It of course doesn't have every bar but it's pretty handy. I think it might also need to be updated a bit. Kind of cool anyway though!
For example, the Yaletown brewery has $2.99 pints if it rains before noon on Thursdays. WTF?

Jess & I planned a super geeky night in advance a while ago and finally got to do it tonight! What a blast! We got the outfits, Jess was more of a modern geek and I was more of an old school geek. We got pizza, because that's the geekiest food, and well there was already wine so we had that. Then we tried to exercise for five whole minutes, which was rough... The night was full of video games, star trek puzzles, internet browsing, gossiping, and wine drinking. It was fabulous, and Jess is fabulous. If I haven't introduced Jess to you folks... well Jess is awesome, they are.. clearly geeky, into bicycles, sci-fi, internet stuff, dancing, and ridiculously good at learning ASL! Jess is also genderqueer and uses neutral pronouns as well, it was really neat to meet Jess as they were one of my first local friends who used neutral pronouns too! Yay! It has been a pleasure getting to know Jess, they're definitely one of my favourite people in Victoria. <3

| Cycle 13 Final Four Poll |
[07 Nov 2009|06:04am] |
|
It's that time again! The cycle is winding down, and it's time for us to play ANTM judges and look back over the models' portfolios in deciding who should win. Normally, this would be done the week before the finale with the final three girls, but this is a special cycle, so we're doing it early!
( Massive Poll Below The Cut )
As always, no spoilers in this post. This post is for fun and for speculation, not for spoilers. Thanks!

Probably been asked before, but where's the cheapest place to get Stella on tap?
I'm not in the mood to pay $8 for a pint but at the same time I'm not in the mood to stay at home in front of the boob tube either. I'm OH MY GOD feeling social. WHO KNEW??
Doesn't have to be in the city proper. I prefer a dive-y bar over a stuck up Yaletown bar (but in Yaletown I'll be paying $20 for a pint and the snobs will throw me out for wearing Chucks with holes in them anyways).
